OF JANUARY 12, 2005, MANAGEMENT MEETING WITH PSEG On January 12, 2005, at 7:00 p.m., a management meeting was conducted between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Public Service Enterprise Group Nuclear, LLC (PSEG) at the Bridgeport Holiday Inn in Swedesboro, NJ. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the results from the NRC special inspection teams (SIT) review of an October 10, 2004, moisture separator steam pipe break and NRC conclusions on two discrete technical issues: the exhaust piping for the high pressure coolant injection (HPCI) pump, and the B reactor recirculation pump.
The meeting was opened by Randy Blough, Director, Division of Reactor Projects, NRC Region I, who introduced the staff and initiated the NRC presentation. The Regional Administrator also participated in the meeting. The NRC presented the results of the SIT and its conclusions on the HPCI turbine exhaust line and B reactor recirculation pump issues.
PSEGs presentation provided their views on the SIT results and on the technical issues.
PSEG also responded to NRC questions throughout the meeting. See the NRC and PSEG presentations for details.
At the conclusion of the meeting between NRC and PSEG, Dr. Jill Lipoti of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) noted that a DEP representative observed the special inspection and acknowledged that the NRC addressed DEPs comments on the technical issues. Approximately 150 people attended the meeting.
After a short break, public attendees were offered the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials. The comments and questions pertained to a variety of topics, including the restart of the Hope Creek reactor and the technical issues discussed during the presentations. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:30 p.m.
