Response to Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Request for Additional Information, Letter dated December 20, 2004 Question "The March 8, 2004, Duke Energy Corporation, Inservice Inspection relief request submittal does not provide the definitive hold times before performing the VT-2 visual examinations for the proposed alternative system leakage test for the McGuire, Unit 2, Class 3, Category D-B, pressure-retaining components subject to IWD-5222 hydrostatic testing.
Please provide clarification that states the hold times required for your proposed system leakage tests for the McGuire, Unit 2, Class 3, Category D-B pressure-retaining components."
Response
10 CFR 50.55a(b)(2)(xx) requires a 10-minute holding time after attaining test pressure for Class 2 and Class 3 components that do not normally operate during operation, and no holding time is required for the remaining Class 2 and Class 3 components provided that system has been in operation for at least 4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
for insulated components or 10 minutes for uninsulated components.
Duke Energy Corporation did not request relief from the hold time requirements; therefore, the hold time requirements stated in 10 CFR 50.55a(b)(2)(xx) shall be met for the proposed system leakage tests for the McGuire, Unit 2, Class 3, Category D-B pressure-retaining components.
