SUMMARY

OF THE DECEMBER 15, 2004, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE RESULTS OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL INSPECTION

Dear Mr. Nazar:

On December 15, 2004, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the American Electric Power Company engineering offices in Buchanan, Michigan. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the results of a recent license renewal inspection completed at the D.C. Cook facility. The meeting request letter and meeting notice can be found in ADAMS as ML043340144 and ML043340096, respectively. A list of NRC and licensee meeting participants is enclosed.

The inspectors concluded that there was reasonable assurance that the appropriate systems, structures, and components were identified as being within scope of the license renewal efforts and that the aging management programs were sufficient to address aging effects for those systems, structures, and components. Two minor issues were identified which were passed on to NRR for inclusion in their review of the application.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records System (PARS) component of NRCs document system (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room).

If you have any questions regarding this meeting, please contact me at (630) 829-9727.

Sincerely,

/RA/
