50-260 50-391 50-296 50-438 50-327 50-439 50-328 BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1, 2, AND 3; WATTS BAR NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 1; AND SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 - USE OF ENCRYPTION SOFTWARE VERSION 8.1 FOR SECURE TRANSMISSION OF SAFEGUARDS INFORMATION Pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 73.21 (g)(3), TVA requested, and was granted NRC approval, by letter dated June 14, 2004, to process and transmit Safeguards Information (SGI) using PGP Software (Enterprise, Corporate, or Personal) Desktop Version 8.0 or the latest validated version, developed with PGP SDK 3.0.3. National Institute of Standards and Technology Certificate 394 validates compliance of this SDK with FIPS 140-2 requirements.
At this time, TVA requests immediate approval to also use PGP Software (Enterprise, Corporate, or Personal) Desktop Version 8.1 which was also developed with PGP SDK 3.0.3.
It is our understanding that upon NRC approval we can immediately commence using Version 8.1, as it was developed with PGP SDK 3.0.3, and the 30-day waiting period specified in our original approval letter is not required.
