SUMMARY
OF MAY 20, 2004, PUBLIC MEETING WITH FPL ON POWER UPRATE LICENSE AMENDMENT APPLICATION On May 20, 2004, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a meeting at the NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, Rockville, Maryland, with representatives from FPL.
Pursuant to the Commissions Policy Statement on "Enhancing Public Participation in NRC Meetings," (67 FR 36920), dated May 28, 2002, the meeting was open to the public for observation and an opportunity to communicate with the NRC staff following the business portion of the meeting. No members of the public were in attendance. A list of attendees is provided as Attachment 1. The draft of a supplement to FPL's March 17, 2004, application is provided as Attachment 2. A supporting handout from the meeting is provided as .
The meeting was used to discuss additional information related to FPL's power uprate license amendment request for Seabrook. The meeting provided the NRC staff the opportunity to provide the licensee with a clear understanding of the information the NRC staff needs to complete its acceptance review of FPL's application. FPL plans to submit its formal supplemental information within a few weeks of the meeting. No NRC staff decisions were made during the meeting. The NRC staff also clarified that questions outlined in Attachment 3 were not to be treated as official requests for additional information (RAIs). The staff provided these questions for clarification purposes only. The NRC staff will issue formal RAIs over the next few months.
