Subject:

Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station License No. DPR-28 (Docket No. 50-271)

Supplement to Relief Reguest ISI-06 On September 25, 2003, Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station (VY) submitted to the NRC Inservice Inspection (ISI) Relief Request ISI-06.1 ISI-06 requested relief from the inspection requirements of ASME Section Xl, Class 1, Examination Category B-A, Code Item No. BI.1 1, for Circumferential Shell Welds.

During the NRC's review of Relief Request ISI-06, the reviewer inquired about a flaw indication contained within the circumferential weld E-F at approximately 72 that was last reviewed for acceptability by the NRC in April 19992. During a follow-up conference call, the NRC reviewer requested that VY commit to re-inspecting the flaw indication during one of the next two refueling outages.

Accordingly, during VY's recent refueling outage (RFO 24, April 2004), the subject indication was inspected. The inspection results indicate that the flaw dimensions have not enlarged and the flaw remains bounded by that previously categorized. Specifically, the PDI qualified ultrasonic sizing technique revealed the indication to be the same length but the thru-wall dimension was slightly smaller. The results of this examination will be reported along with our other ISI examination results per ASME Section Xi and 10 CFR 50.55a requirements.

The Attachment identifies that there are no commitments contained within this letter.
