Nine Mile Point Unit 1 Docket No. 50-220 License No. DPR-63 Special Report, Channel #11 of the Containment Hydrogen Monitoring System Inoperable for Scheduled Corrective Maintenance Gentlemen:

In accordance with Action 4.a of Nine Mile Point Unit I Technical Specification Table 3.6.11-2, "Accident Monitoring Instrumentation Action Statements," Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, LLC, is submitting the following Special Report concerning inoperability of Channel #11 of the Containment Hydrogen Monitoring (CHM) System.

Description of Event On March 29, 2004, at approximately 1237 hours0.0143 days <br />0.344 hours <br />0.00205 weeks <br />4.706785e-4 months <br />, operators declared Channel #11 of the CHM System out of service to support corrective maintenance on the Containment Activity Monitoring (CAM) System.

The redundant Channel #12 was verified to be in service prior to removing Channel #11 from service.

Cause of Event The CHM System was declared inoperable in order to perform scheduled corrective maintenance on the Drywell CAM air pump. Channel #11 CHM System shares a common return line with the CAM system and therefore, becomes inoperable during CAM maintenance. The CAM maintenance replaced the sample pump and motor.

Page 2 NMP1L 1825 Corrective Actions The scheduled corrective maintenance was completed and Channel #11 of the CHM System was returned to an operable status on March 30, 2004, at approximately 0833 hours0.00964 days <br />0.231 hours <br />0.00138 weeks <br />3.169565e-4 months <br />.
