Dear Senator Prescott:

I would like to personally invite you and other members of your organization to attend a meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and FPL Energy Seabrook, LLC in which the NRC staff will discuss with FPL our annual assessment of the safety performance of Seabrook Station.

The meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2004, at the Hampshire Inn, 20 Spur Road in Seabrook, NH. At the meeting we will briefly discuss our Reactor Oversight Process and then discuss with FPL our assessment of their safety performance of Seabrook Station and their response to our assessment. The meeting is open to the public for observation. Following the presentation, the NRC staff will be available to answer questions from you and members of the public regarding the safety performance of Seabrook Station and the role of the NRC in ensuring safe plant operations.

The NRC recently completed its annual assessment of the safety performance of the Seabrook Station in accordance with the NRC Reactor Oversight Process. Our assessment used the most recent performance indicator data and inspection findings from January 1, 2003 through December 31, 2003.

We described our assessment results in a letter to FPL on March 2, 2004. A copy of that letter is enclosed. The NRCs meeting notice, meeting agenda, and assessment letter can be found in the ADAMS meeting package (Accession Number ML040640874).
