KEWAUNEE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT - NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION (NRC) INFORMATION NOTICE (IN) 2004-XX: PLUGGING OF SAFETY INJECTION PUMP LUBRICATION OIL COOLERS WITH LAKEWEED
Dear Mr. Coutu:
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has drafted an Information Notice regarding an event at the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant. It is the event regarding the plugging of the safety injection (SI) pump lubrication oil coolers with lakeweed. You reported the event to the NRC on January 16, 2004. You reported a technical specification required shutdown due to both trains of SI being declared inoperable. The event was reported on the NRC web page in Event Number 40452. Seventeen of twenty tubes of both SI Pump lube oil coolers were found to be blocked with silt and lake weed accumulation at the tube pass inlets.
The NRC staff is enclosing for your information the NRC draft IN 2004-xx, Plugging of Safety Injection Pump Lubrication Oil Coolers with Lakeweed. We are not requesting any response to the draft Information Notice.
