Duke Energy Corporation Oconee Nuclear Station, Unit 3 - Docket No. 50-287 Third Ten-year Inservice Inspection Interval Request for Alternate (Relief Request No.03-004, MB9962)

By letter of July 2, 2003, Duke Energy Corporation (Duke) submitted a Request for Alternate for the Oconee Unit 3 third 10-year -reactor vessel examination per 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(5)(iii).

Subsequent to that submittal, the NRC approved the use of Code Case N648-1 which allows use of an enhanced VT-1 inspection in lieu of an Ultrasonic Test (UT).

Duke has reviewed this Code Case and has concluded that the intent of Duke's request can be achieved by application of Code Case N648-1 to the examination for which relief had been requested.

Therefore, Duke now intends to perform the examination by applying Code Case N648-1. For that reason, the requested relief, designated Relief Request No.03-004, is no longer needed and Duke hereby withdraws the request.
