EMERGENCY PLAN CHANGES FOR THE WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY NUCLEAR RADIATION CENTER (WSUNRC) RESEARCH REACTOR (TAC NO.
Dear Dr. Tripard:
This letter acknowledges receipt of your letter dated June 23, 2003, as supplemented on October 28, 2003, which transmitted changes to the WSUNRC research reactor Emergency Response Plan submitted under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.54(q).
The change was to formalize training frequency for offsite emergency responders. The WSU Campus Police, the WSU Fire Department and Ambulance Service, and the Memorial Hospital emergency room personnel will continue to be trained on a rotating annual basis (each organization every three years). In WSUs letters on this, WSU indicated that associated plans and procedures will be changed to ensure that no group is left out of the training rotation.
Based on our review, the training frequency proposed by WSUNRC, which is a decrease from their current emergency plan commitment, is acceptable.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room. If you have any questions, please contact me at 301-415-1128.
