SUBJECT:
SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNIT NO. 2, RE: FINAL ACCIDENT SEQUENCE PRECURSOR ANALYSIS OF FEBRUARY 2000 OPERATIONAL EVENT
Dear Mr. Anderson:
Enclosed for your information is the final Accident Sequence Precursor (ASP) analysis of an operational event which occurred at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station, Unit No. 2, in February 2000. This condition was documented in NRC Inspection Report 50-311/99-010, dated February 14, 2000. The results of the final ASP analysis indicate that this event is a precursor (i.e., the importance or change in core damage probability (CCDP) >1E-6).
In the past, preliminary versions of all ASP analyses were issued for internal peer review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and for external peer review by the licensee.
Comments received from these reviews were then resolved as part of the final analysis. To increase efficiency, we are now issuing the non-controversial ASP analyses as final documents. In this event, the findings in the ASP analysis (i.e., the change in CCDP and dominant risk contributors) are consistent with those in the Significance Determination Process (SDP). Since this ASP analysis confirms the results of the final SDP, which has been reviewed by the NRC staff and PSEG Nuclear, it is being issued as a final product for information only.
Due to the potential sensitivity of the information described in the enclosed ASP analysis, the staff has not made this enclosure publicly available.
Please contact me at 301-415-1324, if you have any questions regarding the enclosure.
Sincerely,
/RA/
