RENEWAL OF FULL-POWER OPERATING LICENSE FOR FORT CALHOUN STATION, UNIT 1 This memorandum informs the Commission of the issuance of a renewed facility operating license for Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1. By letters dated January 9 and April 5, 2002, Omaha Public Power District, submitted its application to renew the operating license for Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1. The staff reviewed the license renewal application in accordance with 10 CFR Parts 51 and 54. Region IV also performed inspections, as described in an August 29, 2003, memorandum from Thomas P. Gwynn, Acting Regional Administrator, to William R. Borchardt, Acting Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR). The staff documented the results of its safety review in its "Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1," which was published as NUREG-1782 in October 2003.
With respect to environmental matters, the staff documented the results of its reviews in a supplemental environmental impact statement which was published as NUREG-1437, "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, Supplement 12, Regarding Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1," dated August 15, 2003.
Pursuant to the June 5, 2002, staff requirements memorandum on SECY-02-0088, the Director of NRR issued Renewed Facility Operating License No. DPR-40 for Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1, on November 4, 2003. The final action was completed within the 22-month goal for reviewing a license renewal application which is not subject to a hearing.
