of State of Michigan LLRW Generation Volume of LLRW by Class - 1997 to 2002: In Cubic Feet 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 Total Class A 13,964 69,355 66,904 26,072 17,649 7,691 201,635 Class B 967 1,737 2,170 348 635 209 6,066 Class C 814 1,297 1,532 1,888 251 170 5,952 NARM 1,275 1,215 340 32 36 NA 2,898 Total 17,020 73,604 70,946 28,340 18,571 8,070 216,551 Note: The high volumes experienced during 1998 and 1999 were due to the start of decommissioning of the Big Rock Point nuclear plant, and the shipment (in 1999) of two steam generators from the D.C. Cook nuclear plant. Continued decommissioning at Big Rock Point, including the shipment of the reactor vessel, will keep volumes elevated in 2003 and 2004 above a baseline of operational wastes of about 10,000 - 15,000 ft3/yr.

Activity of LLRW by Disposal Site - 1997 to 2002: In Curies Data on activity by Waste Class is not available. As a rough proxy measure, the following table is offered. Waste disposed at Bamwell can be assumed to be largely Class B and C waste. Waste disposed at Envirocare is all Class A waste. Waste disposed at the US Ecology site is all NARM waste.

l 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 Total I Barnwell 1,368 7,810 113,360 17,399 161 365 140,463 E-care NA <1 2 9 6 9 26 US Ecol <1 <1 <1 <1 <1 <1 I Total 1,368 7,810 113,362 17,408 167 374 140,490 Note: A 'baseline' for annual activity is impossible to estimate. The very high curie count for 1999 is attributable to the two steam generators noted above.
