Dear M FIELD(Last Name):

Thank you for attending the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC's) June 16, 1999, public meeting in Las Vegas. We appreciate your attendance and were happy to meet with you and discuss NRC's proposed rule for evaluating a potential license application by the U.S.

Department of Energy to construct a repository at Yucca Mountain. Your participation means a lot to us and truly helps us understand the issues and their importance to you and the citizens of Nevada. As you requested, I am enclosing a copy of the official meeting transcript.

All comments made at that meeting, as well as those made at the June 15, 1999 meeting in Amargosa Valley, the June 17, 1999 meeting in Caliente, and the March 1999 meetings in Las Vegas and Beatty, are being analyzed and will be made part of the rulemaking record. We thank you again for participating in our rulemaking process. We share your concern for the safety of the people of Nevada and the environment.

Because we are committed to building a long-term relationship with the residents of Nevada, we plan to return to Las Vegas for future public meetings on other topics related to the proposed repository and NRC's role in ensuring public health and safety. We look forward to meeting with you again and working together to identify and discuss safety issues as they arise.

Sincerely,
