B-D, Item B3.100, in order to implement the alternative requirements of an enhanced VT-1, visual examination technique of the surface M-N shown in ASME Section Xl, Figures IWB-2500-7 (a) through (d) as an alternative to ASME Section Xl Table IWB-2500-1, Examination Category B-D, Item B3.100 that required volumetric examination (Ultrasonic, UT) of the Inner Radius of Class 1 Reactor Vessel Nozzles. The request for relief is for the second 10-year inservice inspection (ISI) interval.
On May 14, 2003, a telecon was held between the NRC and PSEG to further discuss the relief request. As a result of this telecon, PSEG is submitting the following supplemental information to support the completion of the NRC Staffs review of relief request HC-RR-Bl 1.
Enhanced visual resolution demonstrations (EVT-1) for reactor vessel nozzle inner radii will qualify the examination parameters. These parameters will remain consistent with the subsequent EVT-1 examinations. The following parameters should be considered during qualification and examination of EVT-1 nozzle inner radii exams:
