OF APRIL 30, 2003, ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING WITH PSEG On April 30, 2003, at 7:00 p.m., an annual assessment meeting was conducted at the Joint News Center in Woodstown, NJ, between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Public Service Electric & Gas Nuclear, LLC (PSEG). The NRC presented and discussed its assessment of the safety performance of Hope Creek and Salem Units 1 and 2 for the period between January 1 through December 31, 2002.
The NRC presented a summary of national plant performance and discussed the annual assessment results for the Hope Creek and Salem Units. An update on NRC actions to enhance nuclear plant security was also presented. PSEG provided their action plan for the performance issues and the status of evaluations of tritium groundwater contamination. The Assistant Director of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection provided the states evaluation of the tritium issue. At the end of the meeting between the NRC and PSEG, public attendees were offered the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials. The list of principal attendees is provided in Enclosure 1.
