Generic Letter (GL) 89-03, "Operator Licensing National Examination Schedule,"
March 24, 1989, promulgated the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC's) national examination schedule. It contained the two examination dates assigned each facility during each fiscal year.
To plan its resources for fiscal years 1992 through 1995, the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) requests that you provide it with an update of the number of candidates you provided in response to GL 90-07, 'Operator Licensing National Examination Schedule," August 10, 1990.
Using the proposed format provided as Enclosure 1, please update your estimate of the anticipated number of candidates to be examined during each site visit assigned to you. Please update your requalification examination schedule using the proposed format provided as Enclosure 2. Please estimate the number of candidates that you expect will participate in the Generic Fundamental Examination Schedule (GFES) using the proposed format provided as Enclosure 3. Enclosure 4 is the National Examination Schedule.

As stated in
-1 89-03, in the absence of extenuating circumstances, the NRC will not reschedule initial examinations, but will defer them until the next regularly scheduled site visit. The regional offices will continue to schedule NRC requalification examinations to coincide as closely as possible with each facility's requalification schedule, while still conducting sufficient examinations to ensure all operators' licenses can be renewed before they expire.
