HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION - REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING USE OF CODE CASE N-566-2 (TAC NO. MB7836)
Dear Mr. Keiser:
By letter dated February 14, 2003, PSEG Nuclear, LLC requested relief from the requirements of sub-paragraph IWA-5250(a)(2) of Section XI of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Code), 1989 Edition, in order to implement the alternative requirements of ASME Code Case N-566-2 at the Hope Creek Generating Station when leakage is detected at bolted connections. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has begun its review of the proposed relief and requests that you answer the enclosed questions regarding your submittal. These questions were discussed with Mr. Howard Berrick of your staff in a telephone call on March 26, 2003.
In order that we may complete our review in a timely manner, we understand that you intend to submit your response to the enclosed request for additional information within 15 days of the date of this letter. If this is incorrect or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.

Please specify what actions would be taken in this event and the requirements directing those actions, e.g., code, procedures.
Question 2: The relief request does not address what subsequent inspections would be performed in the event that the evaluation of Code Case N-566-2, paragraphs (a) or (b) determines that the relevant condition can be accepted for continuing service. This is of particular interest for Code Class 2 and 3 components. Please specify what actions would be taken in this event and the requirements directing those actions, e.g., code, procedures.
