SUMMARY

OF TELECONFERENCE WITH SOUTH CAROLINA ELECTRIC AND GAS IN SUPPORT OF THE STAFFS REVIEW OF THE V. C. SUMMER LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO. MB5227)

On Thursday, January 23, 2003, the NRC conducted a teleconference with representatives of the South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G). The following individuals participated in the teleconference:

Gregory Suber, NRC Robert Palla, NRC Kim Green, Information Services Laboratory (ISL)

Jim Meyer, ISL Al Paglia, SCE&G Steve Summer, SCE&G Eric Rumsfeld, SCE&G By letter dated January 17, 2003, the NRC issued a request for additional information (RAI) to SCE&G regarding the severe accident management alternatives (SAMA) evaluation presented in the Environmental Report submitted on August 6, 2002. The purpose of the teleconference was to discuss and clarify certain RAIs. In particular, SCE&G had questions regard RAIs 1c and 4c.

The first issue in RAI 1c involved two tables, F.1-1 and F.1-2. The information request asked for clarification regarding the reasons for changes in CDF between the IPE model and the UP3a model. There appeared to be an inconsistency in how Table F.1-2, attributes accounted for the changes in CDF as compared to Table F.1-1. The licensee clarified the difference between the two tables and agreed to append Table F.1-2.

The second issue in RAI 4c involved Phase II SAMA. SAMA 7 was erroneously included as an example. The NRC state it was a typographic error and agreed to delete it from the question.

Additionally, the deadline for SCE&Gs response to the SAMA RAIs was changed from March 3 to March 21 2003.
