5. REVIEW BY THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS On August 14, 2002, the staff issued its safety evaluation report (SER) with open items. Since that time, the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has conducted a review of the 10 CFR Part 54 portion of the McGuire and Catawba license renewal application. On October 8, 2002, the applicant presented its license renewal application, and the staff presented its review findings, to the ACRS Plant License Renewal Subcommittee. The ACRS Subcommittee will continue its detailed review of the McGuire and Catawba license renewal application after this SER is issued. Duke Energy Corporation and the staff will meet with the full committee to discuss issues associated with the review of the application. The meeting will be open to the public.

After the ACRS completes its review of the McGuire and Catawba license renewal application, the full committee will issue a report discussing the results of its review. This report will be included in this SER when it is issued as a NUREG. The staff will address any issues and concerns identified in that report.
