SUBJECT:
SCHEDULE FOR REVIEW OF THE SURRY INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO. L23455)
Dear Mr. Christian:
On April 29, 2002, Virginia Electric and Power Company (Virginia Power) submitted an application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to renew its license for the Surry Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI). In our letter dated June 21, 2002, we indicated that a schedule for the review of your application would be provided at a later date.
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the NRCs schedule to perform the subject review.
Your license renewal application was accompanied by an exemption request to extend the license renewal period to 40 years. Your exemption request will be reviewed as a separate action on a concurrent schedule.
The schedule below establishes the key milestones and dates associated with the subject application. With your assistance, the staffs goal is to issue the renewed license, or otherwise document its licensing decision, including its Safety Evaluation Report (SER), by January 15, 2004. Please note that this schedule is independent of any hearing that may be requested and granted in accordance with NRC regulations.
