Subject:

VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION DOCKET NO. 50/395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION AMENDMENT REQUEST - TSP 99-0090 SPENT FUEL POOL STORAGE EXPANSION - SUPPLEMENTAL LETTER REVISION TO TESTING PLAN FOR THE TEMPORARY CRANE

Reference:

S. A. Byrne Letter to Document Control Desk, RC-02-0132, Dated July 25, 2002 South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), acting for itself and as agent for South Carolina Public Service Authority, hereby submits a revision to the testing plan for the temporary crane used in the installation and removal of the spent fuel storage racks.

In the referenced letter, SCE&G committed to test the temporary crane used to handle spent fuel storage racks to 125% of rated capacity in the shop and to 100% of rated capacity following re-assembly of the crane in the field.

When the crane was erected in the field, mechanical interferences related to the range of movement for the crane hoist required modification to the knee braces on the crane structure.

Due to the alteration of the knee braces, and based on the guidance in ANSI/ASME B30.2 1976, Section 2-2.2, Testing, a rated load test will be performed in the field to 125% of rated load to assure the structural integrity of the crane and hoist. All other testing and limitations described in the above referenced letter will be unaltered.

Should you have questions, please call Mr. Philip A. Rose at (803) 345-4052.

I certify under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.
