SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 8, 2002, WITH ENTERGY OPERATIONS, INC.
On October 8, 2002, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with staff of Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy or the licensee) at Headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, to discuss their April 24, 2002, license amendment request for the River Bend Station, Unit 1 (RBS). The proposed amendment would enable the licensee to replace the traditional source term used in design basis accidents with an alternative source term, as provided in Section 50.67, Accident Source Term, of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations. During the meeting, Entergy provided an overview of its application, as well as the current licensing background, a detailed description of their proposed changes, and a discussion of the analyses they conducted to support their application. A list of attendees is included as Enclosure 1. The presentation slides used by Entergy are included as Enclosure 2 and are available in ADAMS under the accession number ML022970049.
Although no management decisions were made as a result of the meeting, it provided an opportunity for the NRC staff to ask questions and clarify its understanding of the licensee's submittal. Based on issues raised during the meeting, the licensee plans to submit additional information to support the staff's review.
