SUMMARY
OF PUBLIC SCOPING MEETINGS TO SUPPORT REVIEW OF THE H. B. ROBINSON STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT 2, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION Environmental scoping meetings were conducted to support the review of the H. B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit 2 (Robinson) license renewal application submitted by Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L). The public meetings were conducted in the afternoon and evening on Wednesday, September 25, 2002, on the campus of Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina. Approximately 50 people attended the meetings, including the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) environmental review team, members of the public, representatives from CP&L, State and local governments, and the press. Approximately 15 individuals spoke at the meetings; some of these individuals expressed concerns with extending the operating life of the Robinson nuclear unit based on issues such as pressurized thermal shock, thermal pollution and its impact on the fishery of Lake Robinson, storage of high level radioactive waste, security, and severe reactor accidents. Enclosure 1 contains the official corrected transcripts for the afternoon and evening sessions. Enclosure 2 is a copy of the overhead slides used in the NRCs presentation.
