- 2) AmerGen letter 2130-00-20300 dated November 10, 2000, "Alternative Repair of Control Rod Drive Housing Interface with Reactor Vessel" The following additional information is provided to support NRC staff review of the Oyster Creek request for approval of alternative repair of control rod drive stub tubes provided in Reference 1. In Reference 2, AmerGen Energy Company, LLC (AmerGen) committed to reevaluate earlier hydrogen water chemistry (HWC) ECP evaluations. These evaluations concluded that Oyster Creek should increase hydrogen injection to provide 0.5 - 0.6 ppm in feedwater to meet the current criteria for mitigation and protection of the recirculation piping and lower plenum down to the control rod drive (CRD) stub tubes. Hydrogen injection has been increased to provide at least 0.5 ppm in feedwater since October 31, 2001. Additionally, Oyster Creek has continued zinc injection which was implemented in July 2000. Current operating cycle 18 has maintained zinc injection concentration at approximately 7.0 ppb. Primary system mitigation will also be achieved with the Noble Metals Chemical Application planned for the upcoming 1 R1 9 refueling outage. This application will consist of noble metals injection for a 48-hour duration at appropriate primary system pressure/temperature conditions while the plant is off line.
