Special Report, Channel#12 ContainmentHydrogen Monitoring System Inoperablefor Scheduled PreventiveMaintenance Gentlemen:

In accordance with Action Statement 4.a of Nine Mile Point Unit 1 Technical Specification Table 3.6.11-2, Accident Monitoring Instrumentation Action Statements, Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, LLC is submitting the following Special Report concerning the inoperability of the Channel #12 Containment Hydrogen Monitoring System.

Descriptionof Event On August 20, 2002, at approximate 0905 hours0.0105 days <br />0.251 hours <br />0.0015 weeks <br />3.443525e-4 months <br />, operators declared the Channel #12 Containment Hydrogen Monitoring System inoperable for scheduled preventive maintenance.

The scheduled maintenance was to replace the powerstat variable transformer, T1. The maintenance was completed on August 26, 2002, and the Channel #12 Containment Hydrogen Monitoring System was returned to service at approximately 1604 hours0.0186 days <br />0.446 hours <br />0.00265 weeks <br />6.10322e-4 months <br />.

The redundant Channel #11 Containment Hydrogen Monitoring System was verified in service prior to removing Channel #12 from service.

Cause of Event The Channel #12 Containment Hydrogen Monitoring System was declared inoperable in order to perform scheduled preventive maintenance.
