SUBJECT:

REVISED SCHEDULE FOR THE STAFFS REVIEW OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR FOR MCGUIRE, UNITS 1 AND 2, AND CATAWBA, UNITS 1 AND 2

Dear Mr. Tuckman:

By a letter dated August 14, 2002, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) transmitted the license renewal safety evaluation report (SER) with open items for McGuire, Units 1 and 2, and Catawba, Units 1 and 2. In the letter, the NRC requested a response to the open and confirmatory items identified in the SER by October 27, 2002. However, since that date is not a business day, a response by October 28, 2002, is requested. The letter also erroneously stated that a complete and revised SER will be issued by January 6, 2002 - the correct date is January 6, 2003.

Enclosed is a revised review schedule that reflects the change in date (from October 25, 2002, to October 28, 2002) for your response to the open and confirmatory items in the SER.

Additionally, a change in the dates for the ACRS subcommittee meeting (from October 2, 2002, to October 8, 2002) and full committee meeting (from October 9, 2002, to October 10, 2002) is indicated in the revised schedule. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please call me at 301-415-1868.

Sincerely,

/RA/
