By Reference 1, McGuire Nuclear Station submitted its response to the Interim Safeguards and Security Compensatory Measures Order ("Order") issued by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission ("NRC") on February 25, 2002 for McGuire Nuclear Station Units I and 2. By Reference 2, McGuire submitted a request for an extension of time in which to submit an answer and request a hearing regarding the order. A conference call was held on April 16, 2002 with members of the NRC to discuss the McGuire response to the Order. As a result of the conference call, the NRC requested that McGuire revise the response to Item 5.d and clarify extensions being requested by Reference 2. By Reference 3, McGuire provided the revised response to Item 5.d and withdrew extension requests for Items B.2.a(l) and B.2.a(2). McGuire requested an extension

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk July 18, 2002 Page 2 of time until June 14, 2002 to supplement the response to the Order and an equal extension of time in which to request a hearing for Item B. 1.c. However, an engineering analysis completed on May 29, 2002, obviated the need for an extension of time for Item B. 1.c. contains "Safeguards Information" and provides an updated response to Item B. 1.c.

Upon separation of Attachment 1, this cover letter is considered DECONTROLLED.
