DAVIS-BESSE NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT 1 - MEETING
SUMMARY
OF APRIL 10, 2002, TO DISCUSS THE INSPECTIONS AND REPAIR CONCEPT OF THE REACTOR PRESSURE VESSEL HEAD On April 10, 2002, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) management and staff conducted a public meeting in Rockville, Maryland, with representatives of FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss proposed repairs and modifications to the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) head at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station with interested members of the public. The meeting was noticed on March 29, 2002.
A telephone conference bridge was established for members of the public who were unable to attend.
The licensee presented a summary of their ultrasonic and visual inspection results from the damaged RPV head, an overview of their proposed repair concept, and an overview of their proposed final reactor core configuration after repairs are complete. Following the licensees presentation, questions were taken. The NRC participants are included as Enclosure 1. The presentation slides used by the licensee are accessible on the portion of the NRC website (www.nrc.gov) established for the public meetings associated with the Davis-Besse reactor vessel head degradation issue, in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under ADAMS accession number ML021050239, and are included as. Subsequent to the meeting, the licensee provided a list of the questions from the meeting along with their responses, which are included as Enclosure 3.
