SUBJECT:
ASSESSMENT FOLLOWUP - SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT On April 16, 2002, the NRC staff forwarded a letter concerning the final significance determination of a white inspection finding in the mitigating system cornerstone. This finding was associated with a Thermo-Lag fire barrier assembly between Fire Areas 1-A-SWGR-B [B Train Switchgear Room/Auxiliary Control Panel Room] and Fire Area 1-A-CSR-A [A Train Cable Spreading Room] which did not have the required three-hour fire resistance rating.
As a result, we have assessed performance for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant to be in the Regulatory Response column of the NRCs Action Matrix. Therefore, we plan to conduct supplemental inspection 95001 during the week of May 27, 2002. The objective of this inspection will be to ensure that the underlying performance issues have been identified and that appropriate corrective actions have been taken to prevent recurrence.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRCs document system (ADAMS).
