SUMMARY
OF APRIL 11, 2002, ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING WITH ENTERGY NUCLEAR OPERATIONS, INC.
On April 11, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., a meeting was conducted at The Verplanck Fire House in Verplanck, NY between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. The purpose of the meeting was for the NRC to provide their annual assessment of Indian Point Unit 3 (IP3) performance.
The meeting was opened by Peter W. Eselgroth, Division of Reactor Projects Branch Chief, who introduced the staff and initated the NRC presentation. The NRC briefly summarized past and current IP3 performance, noting that the plant is being operated safely in the regulatory response band. During their presentation, Entergy described their performance assessment including station wide initiatives that were underway. During the meeting, the NRC questioned Entergy on these initiatives and on other issues.
At the end of the meeting between Entergy and NRC, the public attendees were offered the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials. Of the approximately 10 members of the public that attended the meeting, three individuals asked questions over about a 45 minute period, many of which related to plant security, plant protection, and evacuation issues within the local communities. These questions and comments were addressed by NRC management.
