PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT
- REGULATORY CONFERENCE SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT-DOCKET NO. 50-400
Dear Mr. Scarola:
This letter confirms the telephone conversation between Mr. John Caves of your staff and Mr. George MacDonald of this office on May 6, concerning a regulatory conference requested by you which has been scheduled for June 4, 2002, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (EDT). The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the significance of the failure of foreign material controls which allowed foreign material into the containment sump suction piping to the A residual heat removal (RHR) system pump at the Shearon Harris plant. The finding associated with this issue is discussed in NRC Inspection Report Nos. 50-400/01-05 and 50-400/02-07. Using the significance determination process, the NRC preliminarily determined the finding to be White, i.e., an issue with low to moderate safety significance.
The location of the meeting will be at Region II Offices located at 61 Forsyth Street SW, Suite 24T20, in the main conference room, Atlanta, Georgia, 30303-8931. This meeting is an open meeting as per "Staff Meetings Open to the Public; Final Policy Statement" (59 FR 48340, September 20, 1994, as amended at 65 FR 56964, September 20, 2000). Interested members of the public should contact the meeting coordinator Mr. George MacDonald at (404) 562-4543 indicating their attention to attend by May 30, 2002. This will ensure that sufficient copies of meeting materials are available. Some portions of the meeting may be closed to public observation. Because meetings are sometimes cancelled as a result of unforseen circumstances, members of the public should contact the coordinator at the number shown above to confirm that this meeting will occur as scheduled.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRCs "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRCs document system (ADAMS).
