MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT - REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELATED TO LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST (TAC NO. MB3187)

Dear Mr. Forbes:

By application dated October 17, 2001, Nuclear Management Company, LLC, requested a license amendment to update the multiplier values for the single-loop operation Average Planar Linear Heat Generation Rate, in Monticellos Technical Specification Section 3.11.A.a. The staff is reviewing your application and requests that you provide some additional information as indicated in the enclosure to this letter.

The enclosed request for additional information was discussed with Mr. D. Neve of your staff on May 8, and May 15, 2002. It was agreed that your response will be submitted by June 21, 2002. If you need to revise this date, please contact me at (301) 415-2303, at the earliest opportunity.

Please provide a detailed description of the PCT calculation improvement and identify those differences from the results obtained from NEDE-23785-PA, "The GESTR-LOCA and SAFER Models for Evaluation of Loss-of-Coolant Accident (Volume III),

SAFER/GESTR Application Methodology, 1984. Also, identify the latest approved document in this regard and justify its applicability to GE14 fuel only.
