Quality Assurance Program Reduction in Commitment,"

dated March 8, 2002, (TAC NOS. MB3943 AND MB3944).

Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M), the Licensee for Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant (CNP) Unit 1 and Unit 2, requested approval in Reference 1 for a reduction in commitment to the CNP Quality Assurance Program Description (QAPD). The proposal would have revised Exception/Interpretation I ld to allow continued use of the Training Center File Rooms for the storage of quality assurance records.

In Reference 2, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) informed I&M that the proposed reduction in commitment to the QAPD was not acceptable. In addition the NRC requested a schedule as to when the quality assurance records currently stored in the Training Center would be stored in an area that provides adequate protection of the records in accordance with Criterion XVII of Appendix B to 10 CFR 50.

U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission AEP:NRC:2540-01 Page 2 In response to Reference 2, I&M will provide storage protection in accordance with 10CFR 50 Appendix B Criterion XVII for the records currently stored in the Training Center by September 30, 2002.

They are described to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the NRC's information and are not regulatory commitments.

Commitment Date I&M will store the quality assurance records currently stored in the Training Center in an area that provides adequate September 30, 2002 protection of the records in accordance with Criterion XVII of Appendix B to 10 CFR 50.
