Dear Mr. Tierney:

We would like to personally invite you and other members of your organization to attend separate meetings between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and both Entergy Nuclear Northeast and the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, Limited Liability Corporation in which the NRC staff will discuss with each company our annual assessment of the safety performance of the FitzPatrick and Nine Mile Point Nuclear Generating Stations, respectively.

The meeting with Entergy regarding the annual assessment of performance at FitzPatrick will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2002, in the Joint News Center at the Oswego County Airport in Fulton, New York. The meeting regarding Nine Mile Point will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2002, also at the Joint News Center, 40 Airport Drive, Fulton, NY. Both meetings are open to the public for observation. At each meeting we will briefly discuss our Reactor Oversight Process and then discuss our assessment of the safety performance of FitzPatrick or Nine Mile Point. Also, each company will discuss pertinent aspects of their performance and future improvement plans. The NRC staff will be available following each meeting to answer questions from you and members of the public regarding the safety performance of FitzPatrick or Nine Mile Point, and the role of the NRC in ensuring safe plant operations.

The NRC recently completed its annual assessment of the safety performance of the FitzPatrick and Nine Mile Point Nuclear Power Stations in accordance with the NRC Reactor Oversight Process. Our assessments used the most recent performance indicator data and inspection findings from April 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001. We described our assessment results in a letter to Entergy on March 1, 2002, and to Nine Mile Point on March 4, 2002; a copy of each letter is attached.
