March 13, 2002 THIS LETTER WAS ISSUED TO THOSE ON THE ATTACHED DISTRIBUTION LIST

SUBJECT:

MEETING WITH SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON

Dear :

You are cordially invited to attend a public meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Southern California Edison on April 16, 2002, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be conducted at the San Clemente Inn, 2600 Avenida del Presidente, San Clemente, California. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the results of a recently completed integrated assessment of performance at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Units 2 and 3.

On February 12, 2002, the NRC completed an integrated assessment of performance at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Units 2 and 3. This integrated assessment included a review of performance indicators and the results of inspections conducted by the NRC. The assessment period was from April 1 to December 31, 2001. The performance indicators, results of NRC inspections, and the results of the integrated assessment for San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Units 2 and 3 can be found on the NRC website at http://www.nrc.gov/NRR/OVERSIGHT/ASSESS/SANO2/sano2_chart.html and http://www.nrc.gov/NRR/OVERSIGHT/ASSESS/SANO3/sano3_chart.html.

Following the meeting, members of the NRC staff will be available to meet with you and answer any questions that you may have. This is a good opportunity to meet the NRC personnel with whom you would interface in the event of an emergency at the nuclear power plant. I look forward to visiting with you at the meeting. Should you have any questions, please contact me at 949-492-2641 In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be made available electronically for public inspection in the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's document system (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room).

Sincerely,

/RA/
