In the Matter of Duke Energy Corporation McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Catawba Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-369-LR. 50-370-LR, 50-413-LR, 50-414-LR

Dear Administrative Judges:

In accordance with an applicant's obligation to keep the Licensing Board and parties informed of new and material developments,' attached are copies of Duke Energy Company's responses to NRC Staff Requests for Additional Information ("RAls") related to the license renewal environmental reports for the McGuire and Catawba stations.

These RAI responses, filed on January 31, 2002 and February 1, 2002, for McGuire and Catawba respectively, specifically supplement the environmental report Severe Accident Mitigation Alternatives ("SAMA") analyses for the stations and are therefore relevant to BREDL/NIRS Consolidated Contention 2 as admitted by the Licensing Board in this proceeding.

See Duke Power Co. (William B. McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2), ALAB-143, 6 AEC 623, 625 (1973).
