SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Nine Mile Point Unit Two operated with a capacity factor (MDC) of 77.21% and an availability factor of 78.24% for the month of December 2001.
On December 2nd at 1449 hours0.0168 days
0.403 hours
0.0024 weeks
5.513445e-4 months
, Unit 2 was manually scrammed from approximately 75% power following an electrical fault and trip of the "A" reactor feedwater pump. The reactor was brought critical at 1132 hours0.0131 days
0.314 hours
0.00187 weeks
4.30726e-4 months
on December 5h and the main turbine was placed in service at 1922 hours0.0222 days
0.534 hours
0.00318 weeks
7.31321e-4 months
on December 6t. Full power operation was achieved by 2048 hours0.0237 days
0.569 hours
0.00339 weeks
7.79264e-4 months
on December 7h. A planned power reduction to approximately 80% power was performed starting at 0230 hours0.00266 days
0.0639 hours
3.80291e-4 weeks
8.7515e-5 months
on December 8" to perform a rod pattern adjustment related to plant startup. Full power operation was again resumed by 0843 hours0.00976 days
0.234 hours
0.00139 weeks
3.207615e-4 months
the same day.
On December 15th at 2046 hours0.0237 days
0.568 hours
0.00338 weeks
7.78503e-4 months
, Unit 2 was manually scrammed from approximately 60% power following indication of increased reactor coolant leakage of 5.87 gpm. A plant shutdown because of the increased leakage was in progress at the time of the manual scram. The source of the leakage was failed packing of 2RCS*MOV18A. The reactor was brought critical at 1958 hours0.0227 days
0.544 hours
0.00324 weeks
7.45019e-4 months
on December 17tb and the main turbine was placed in service at 1007 hours0.0117 days
0.28 hours
0.00167 weeks
3.831635e-4 months
on December 18h. Full power operation was achieved by 1135 hours0.0131 days
0.315 hours
0.00188 weeks
4.318675e-4 months
on December 19k". A planned power reduction to approximately 82% power was performed starting at 1900 hours0.022 days
0.528 hours
0.00314 weeks
7.2295e-4 months
on December 19'h to perform a rod pattern adjustment related to plant startup. Full power was again resumed by 0109 hours0.00126 days
0.0303 hours
1.802249e-4 weeks
4.14745e-5 months
on December 20, 2001 There were no challenges to the safety relief valves during this reporting period.
