SUMMARY

OF MAY 9, 2001, MEETING ON PROPOSED CLINTON POWER STATION EXTENDED POWER UPRATE On May 9, 2001, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) management and staff met in Rockville, Maryland, with representatives of AmerGen Energy Company, LLC. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a proposed 20 percent power uprate of the Clinton Power Station (CPS). A list of the meeting participants is included as an enclosure, and a copy of the meeting handout is in ADAMS at accession number ML011290447.

The licensee stated that they intend to submit a 20 percent power uprate for CPS in June 2001.

The licensee plans to implement the uprate over two operating cycles, because of the need to complete transition to the GE 14 fuel type and because of the number of modifications that will need to be done. Following the refueling outage in the spring of 2002, the licensee expects to be able to increase power by 7 percent. The remaining 13 percent of power increase would be achieved after the following refueling outage. The licensee stated that the uprate would not increase reactor dome operating pressure. Also, the licensee expects to stay within their National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The licensee requested a March 2002, completion date for NRC staff review. The staff stated that it would commence review of the power uprate application when submitted, and that the requested schedule was aggressive and may be difficult to achieve.
