January 17, 2002 MEMORANDUM TO: File FROM: N. Kalyanam, Project Manager /RA/
Project Directorate IV Division of Licensing Project Management Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
SUBJECT:
ENTERGY OPERATIONS INC., PRESENTATION OF THE MNSA 2 CLAMPS FOR WATERFORD STEAM ELECTRIC STATION, UNIT 3 (WATERFORD 3), AND ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 2 (ANO-2)
Entergy Operations Inc., the licensee for Waterford 3 and ANO-2, telephoned the staff on January 14, 2002, to indicate that they, along with manufacturers of MNSA clamps, would make a presentation on the new MNSA 2 clamps on January 31, 2002.
The original MNSA clamps, approved for use on Waterford 3 and a few other Combustion Engineering plants, provide a temporary fix if leakage from the Reactor Coolant System is observed during an outage. Use of the original MNSA clamps is restricted to certain shapes.
The manufacturers of MNSA clamps have now developed MNSA 2 clamps, which are a "new and improved version" of the original model clamps, can be used on "non-symmetrical" shapes and have additional features, such as compensation for seal shrinkage.
Docket Nos. 50-382 and 50-368
