ALTERNATE REQUALIFICATION PROGRAM FOR SENIOR REACTOR OPERATOR DETAILED TO THE INSTITUTE OF NUCLEAR POWER OPERATIONS
Dear Mr. Herron :
This is in response to your letter dated December 19, 2001, concerning suspension of participation in the requalification program of Mr. William H. Pendergrass, NRC license number SOP-43034-4, Docket No. 55-9436.
It is our understanding that Mr. Pendergrass will not participate in the Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit No. 3, Licensed Operator Requalification Program due to his involvement with the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO).
It is also our understanding that Mr. Pendergrass will be enrolled in an Accelerated Requalification Program [considered additional training in accordance with 10 CFR 55.59(b)],
will be required to pass a comprehensive requalification examination, and will meet the requirements of 10 CFR 55.53(f) (1 and 2), 10 CFR 55.21, 10 CFR 55.23, and 10 CFR 26 prior to returning to licensed duties.
In addition, we request that, before Mr. Pendergrass returns to licensed duties, you certify, in writing, to the Region IV office that Mr. Pendergrass has successfully completed the Accelerated Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3, Licensed Operator Requalification Program requirements in accordance with 10 CFR 55.59(b).
Please be advised that since Mr. Pendergrass will not participate in the Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3, Requalification Program, Mr. Pendergrass shall not direct activities of licensed operators and shall not manipulate the controls of Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3, during this period of involvement with INPO. His license is amended accordingly.
