Letter, G. L.- Sjoblom (NRC) to @.-A r Rode -(,C,Ek d C
November 24, 1989 ll
Dear Mr. Sjoblom:
Via the Reference, the Nuclear-Regulatory Commission (NRC)
- transmitted its approval of the use of enriched uranium in the Fuel Manufacturing L
- revitalized facilities at Combustion Engineering's}however, imposed L
Facility in Hematite, Missouri.
The amendment, l
license conditions Nos. 36 and 37 which limited our ability to utilize the new pelletizing lines. This letter submits additional information intended to allow removal of these two license conditions.
l Conditions 36 and 37 pertain to the addition of poreformer and L
lubricant into the new pelletizing lines in Building 254 and to the presence of water near Special Nuclear Material (SNM) stored on the i
upper levels near the pelletizing lines. The additional analyses show-L that credible combinations of UO2 powder with poreformer and lubricant and any ' arrangement of water buckets and SNM storage containers will still meet the existing nuclear criticality criteria. As a result, there is no need for additional criteria to be added to Part I of the license.
Descriptions of the additional analyses have been added to Part II.
I Forwarded herewith are Enclosure I, containing a list of the affected pages; Enclosure II, containing the replacement pages and Enclosure III, a check in the amount of $150.00 to cover this amendment request as required by 10CFR170.31.
Six (6) copies of Enclosures I and II are included for your use.
