FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT COMPANY MAY 2 71986 L-86-220 Mr. Louis A. Reyes, Acting Director Division of Reactor Projects, Region II U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 101 Marietta Street N.W., Suite -2900 Atlanta, Georgia 30323

Dear Mr. Reyes:

Re: St. Lucie Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-389 Report Nos. 33-57, Ste-01,36-02 Deviation 83-57-01 Your letter of April 25, 1986 provided NRR's evaluation of the sprinkler system located in the plant fire areas containing redundant safe shutdown systems. NRR determined portions of the existing systems at St. Lucie Unit 2 needed to be modified by the installation of additional sprinkler heads, relocation of existing sprinkler heads, or removal of obstructions to assure one train of safe shutdown equipment would remain free from damage in the event of a fire. Your letter requested a description of the corrective actions which will be taken to correct the deviation and the date the corrective actions will be completed.

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has requested a walkdown at the site with the NRC (as the " authority having jurisdiction") to discuss the specific areas where the deviation exists and the options available to FPL to correct the deviation.

Af ter the walkdown with NRC, FPL will provide a schedule for submittal of the corrective actions and implem' ntation by July 3,1986. FPL has discussed and e

received concurrence on this response with Messrs. T.E. Conlon and F. Guenther of your staff.

Should you have any questions concerning this letter, please contact us.

Very truly yours, C. O. Woody roup Vice President Nuclear Energy COW /GRM/de cc: Harold F. Reis, Esquire PNS-LI-36-165 8606100346 860527 PDH ADOCK 05000389 t
