Docket No. 50-250 and 50-251 Request to Update to Later Endorsed Code Re ui rements Our letter L-83-505 dated October 3, 1983 transmitted a request to update the endorsed code requirements for System Hydro (and Temperature)
Pressure
- tests, and extended the Inspection Intervals.
- However, we inadvertently presented the planned submittal date for the next 120-month inspection interval rather than the date representing the end of the interval and neglected to include two code paragraphs in the System Hydro (and Temperature)
Pressure test request.
The corrected letter is as follows:
Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(4)(iv), Florida Power 8 Light Company requests approval to use the 1980 Edition and Addenda through the Winter 1981 Addenda of the ASME Section XI Code pertaining to the following:
1)
Use the System Hydro (and Temperature)
Pressure tests required by IWA-
Basis:
The later Code provides more definitive and interpretive information consistent with the system hydro test boundaries; including, pressures and temperatures, test conditions, fracture prevention and system overpressuri zation.
Compliance with the later Code further provides additional assurance that the Florida Power 8 Light Company's test program is in compliance with the regulations.

Extend the Inspection Interval (required by IWA-2400, IWB-2400, IWC-2400 and IWD-2400) due to the lengthy steam generator repair outages on both units.
Unit 3 -
The last 40-month period of the cur rent 120-month Inspection Interval (August 14, 1979 extended to Septemer 1, 1984, with program submittal by March 1, 1984).
Unit 4 -
The last 80-month period of the current 120-month Inspection Interval (January 7,
1977 extended to September 1, 1984, with program submittal by March 1, 1984).
Basis:
IWA-2400(c).
The Inspection Interval may be extended by one year, in addition to the period equivalent to the outage that the unit is out of service continuously for six months or more.
The steam generator repair outages were:
Unit 3 - From February.2, 1981 to April 10, 1982.
Unit 4 - From October 9, 1982 to May 16, 1983.
Florida Power 8 Light Company's Inservice Inspection program is based on the 1974 Edition, including Addenda through Summer 1975 of Section XI of the ASME Code.
