The Use of ASME Code Case N-316 at St. Lucie Unit >/2
Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
An NRC inspection of'ocket welds at St. Lucie ~2 indicated that in some cases fillet leg dimensions.did not meet the 1.09t requirement of the ASME Code.
Florida Power and Light is conducting a socket weld inspec-tion program for socket welds in safety related systems to delineate in situ weld"dimensions of concern.
In reviewing this issue we note that it is addressed explicitly by ASME Code Case N-316 which was recently approved by the ASME on 11 December 1981.
Use of this code case would allow.us to disposition any concerns regardi ng socket weld dimensions in a timely manner.
Thus we request NRC concurrence as to use of ASME Code Case N-316 for defi ning allowable code dimensions for socket welds.
Your concurrence is requested by 28 September 1982 to avoid any potential impact on our construction schedule.
