Broken Studs on Relay Mechanical Interlock Arm - Interim Report On November 24, 1981 Florida Power & Light Company notified the NRC's Region II office in Atlanta (Hugh Dance) of a potential 10 CFR 50.55 (e) involving broken studs on relay mechanical interlock arms. The concern involved the fact that with the mechanical arm guide studs broken, the number 42 relay remained locked in its "as is" position.
In this situation neither the 42 open coil nor the 42 close coil could be operated. The relays in question are part of the 480V motor control center line starters to motor operated valves.
At the present time, our evaluation of this concern is still ongoing.
We expect to complete'our evaluation and submit a final response, no later than February 15,. '92.
Very truly yours, obert E. Uhrig Vice President Advanced Systems & Technology REU/DME/ah cc: Director of Inspection and Enforcement l
