In accordance with 10 CFR 50.48 (d), Florida Power 8 Light Company will require an extension in the schedule for completing the following fire protection modifications at Turkey Point Units 3 and 4.
Letter L-81-51, dated February 13, 1981 requested previously scheduled extensions for Turkey Point Units 3
8 4.
In that request we described pr ocurement pr oblems being experienced with the Emergency Diesel Generator Tank Isolation Valves (SER Item 3. 1. 15),
and rescheduled completion to August 2, 1981.
We are now in recei pt of two of the four required valves.
However, continuing procurement problems have caused the delivery date of the remaining valves to slip to September 1, 1981, with completion scheduled prior to November 1,
1981.
Adequate protection is provided for the reasons discussed in Section
- 8. 5.3.13 of the evaluation transmitted by our letter of February 25, 1977 (L-77-57).
Additionally, frequent patrols by guard force and operations personnel would detect any off-normal condition of the type for which FPL is providing the modifications.
The fire protection modifications already complete provide reasonable assurance that public health and safety is properly protected.
The completion schedule discussed above is a reasonable estimate of the time required to complete the remaining modification.
Adequate alternate protection is afforded pending completion of these items.
