ANNUAL NON-RADIOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENTAL MONXTORING REPORT-'978 III.B.3 Annual Aerial Photo ra hs A comparative analysis of the 1977 and 1978 aeri'al photographs of the Turkey Point Plant cooling canal system shows:

1.

Vegetation on the embankments with'n the cooling canal system boundaries*appears to have increased in area (percent cover) since 1977.

Canal bank vegetation appears to be following hydrologic.

gradients which originate to the west of the canal system.

This growth pattern is especially evident in the northwest section of the canal system.

Xncreases in canal vegetation indicate that viable vegetation communities are developing within the canal system.

2.

Vegetation to the east,

south, and west of the canal system show no change in cover.

In summary,'o major changes i;n vegetation have occured between 1977 and 1978 other than an increase in amount of cover by exotic trees.

Re-vegetation of the Turkey Point, Plant canal banks by native=halophitic species is continuing at. a slow rate.
