Florida Power & Light Company, 6501 South Ocean Drive, Jensen Beach, FL 34957 0FPL April 19, 2002 L-2002-084 10 CFR 50.4 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 RE: St. Lucie Unit 2 Docket No. 50-389 NEI 97-06 Steam Generator Report This letter is provided in accordance with the industry initiative to implement Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) 97-06, Steam Generator Program Guidelines. Specifically NEI 97 06, Section 3.1.7, Reports to NRC, requires the licensee to submit condition monitoring including results of tube pulls and in situ testing within 120 days after the reactor coolant system reenters hot shutdown conditions. NEI 97-06 requires the report when steam generator inspection results indicate greater than 1% of the inspected tubes in each steam generator exceed the repair criteria.

Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) condition monitoring results demonstrate that all tubes met the structural integrity and accident induced leakage performance criteria of NEI 97-06 for cycle 12. Cycle 12 ended in November 2001. Further, our preliminary operational assessment results demonstrate that these criteria will continue to be met until the next inspection at the end of cycle 13. No tubes were pulled from the Unit 2 steam generators. A total of 27 in situ pressure tests were completed and all tubes passed without leakage or burst. These included all indications that exceeded EPRI guidance for screening criteria, as well as several indications that were below the screening criteria to ensure a reasonable level of robustness.

FPL is scheduled to discuss the above condition monitoring and operational assessment resultqi h the NRC at the NRC offices in Rockville, MD on May 2, 2002. Please contact Ge ge adden at 772-467-7155 if there are any questions about this submittal.
